Travel isn't just about the destinations; it's about the experiences you have along the way. I always try to plan at least one super cool stay during each trip—something that turns a simple night’s rest into an unforgettable experience. From waking up with monkeys outside your window to sleeping on the side of a mountain, these stays have been more than just a comfy bed. These places provide moments that have stayed with me long after I've checked out. Here are some of my favorite stays from my travels, including Morocco, Norway, Peru, Thailand, Vietnam, Portugal, and Scotland.

Looking for unforgettable travel experiences beyond the usual sightseeing? Discover my favorite immersive stays from around the world.

Trang An Lamia Bungalow - Vietnam

Trang An Lamia Bungalow, nestled in the countryside of Ninh Binh, is a charming family-owned gem. The cozy atmosphere included a cute bungalow, your own outdoor shower, a pool, and a delightful restaurant where the family also worked. During dinner, the kids played around, adding to the warm, homely vibe. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner there twice—it was absolutely delicious. The owner even lent us a motorbike for free and provided a map of local attractions. Supporting a family-run business while having such an amazing experience was truly a win.

Agafay Luxury Camp - Morocco

Agafay Luxury Camp offered so many incredible experiences. From riding a camel through the Moroccan desert to enjoying live music during a traditional dinner, every moment was unforgettable. The beautiful pool was the perfect spot to relax, and the glamping tent was a unique and comfortable way to stay in the middle of the desert. The beauty of Agafay, especially at sunset, was truly magical. The surrounding desert offered a perfect blend of adventure and tranquility, making it an ideal place to both explore and unwind. It was a great way to immerse yourself in the rich culture of Morocco, leaving you with memories that will last a lifetime.

Hattvika Lodge -Norway

Hattvika Lodge is hands down one of my all-time FAVORITE places to stay in the world. Nestled in the stunning Lofoten Islands of Norway, right by the ocean, it offers the perfect setting to explore this incredible region. The lodge serves an amazing breakfast, featuring traditional fish liver oils, and its location makes it an ideal base for discovering the islands. On-site amenities include a beautiful restaurant, sauna, hot tub, and breathtaking views in every direction. One of the most unforgettable moments of our stay was witnessing the Northern Lights for the first time—an experience we’ll never forget.

Bay Point Landing - Oregon

My love for tiny homes and Scandinavian design runs deep, which is why I’m drawn to Bay Point Landing—a modern camping and lodging destination on the Oregon Coast in Coos Bay. This charming retreat features beautifully designed tiny homes and sleek Airstream suites, offering a unique and cozy experience. There are also full hook up RV sites if you want to bring your own rig. Guests can enjoy a range of thoughtful amenities, including s'mores and firewood delivered right to your tiny home, breathtaking ocean views, a salt water indoor pool, a workout room, a game room, dog washing station, and an on-site food truck. There's also a welcoming common area, perfect for enjoying your morning coffee. Whether you're seeking a peaceful weekend escape or a fun-filled family adventure, Bay Point Landing is the perfect spot to unwind and connect with nature.

Vertical Sky Luxury Suites - Peru

Vertical Sky Luxury Suites was by far the most insane location I’ve ever stayed. Tucked away outside Ollantaytambo in Peru, we were literally perched on the side of a cliff. To get there, we first took a car from Ollantaytambo town center, then had to ride an ATV up the rest of the mountain. Once we arrived, we dined with jaw-dropping views of the valley below. But the adventure didn’t stop there—we were outfitted with climbing gear and guided to our luxury suite, descending into it like true adventurers. It was definitely an experience of a lifetime! I’m not going to lie, sleep didn’t come easy thinking about being hundreds of feet off the ground with only steel and glass holding me in, but I would 100% do it again. The amenities were top-notch, including a restaurant with great views of the valley, and thrilling activities like a via ferrata, ziplining, and a suspension bridge.

Little Owl Cabin - Washington

There’s something about an A-frame cabin that always pulls me in. They’re a staple in the Pacific Northwest, but my absolute favorite one I’ve stayed in was the Little Owl Cabin in Washington. Located just outside Mt. Rainier National Park, it’s perfectly situated for outdoor adventures, with so much to explore nearby. After a day of hiking, it was the ideal place to unwind. We sat outside next to the fire pit and listened to the crackling of the wood burning and the quiet roar of a nearby waterfall. The cabin had everything I needed for a cozy, relaxing stay—an outdoor fireplace, porch swings, multiple beds, and even a wooden hot tub. It was the perfect balance of comfort and nature, making it an unforgettable escape.

L'AND Vineyards - Portugal

This stay was on the pricier side, though I did use points from my Capital One to cover half of it. L'AND Vineyards is the epitome of luxury. From the indoor and outdoor pools to the incredible sauna and spa, every detail was designed for relaxation. The moonroof above the bed, and of course, the wine straight from their vineyard, made it all the more special. It was the perfect place to unwind toward the end of our Portugal adventure. While L'AND Vineyards is about 30 minutes outside of Évora and its location isn’t the most central, it truly felt like a wellness retreat. Upon arrival, we were treated to a fruit platter, a dessert platter, brandy, and a bottle of their wine in the room—such a thoughtful touch! Also, I was absolutely obsessed with the architecture of the place—it was stunning! Every angle seemed to have been crafted with care, making it not just a stay, but an experience in itself.

Centara Grand Beach Resort - Thailand

This was my first time being at a beach resort and Centara Grand Beach Resort did not disappoint.I was looking for a more relaxed and private experience for our honeymoon, and this resort was the perfect choice. Centara offered an unforgettable beach resort experience from the moment we arrived by boat! Set on a private bay, the resort has its own beach, a hiking trail where we encountered plenty of monkeys, multiple pools, and a beautiful spa. Our room had an outdoor jacuzzi with breathtaking ocean views. With four on-site restaurants and charming details like reminders to lock doors against curious monkeys, it was a stay we wished had lasted longer.

Kingshouse - Scotland

This location is everything, situated in the heart of the Glencoe countryside, close to all the hiking trails and a popular resting spot on the famous West Highland Way. Kingshouse was the perfect cozy retreat for a rainy day, offering a peaceful spot to recharge and relax. There's a hiking trail behind the hotel, ideal for getting some fresh air, and we took a crisp autumn walk after breakfast, just before check-out. Although this hotel is on the pricier side, you can still experience it on a budget by staying in their bunkhouse, where many backpackers choose to stay.
