Ollantayambo A Must Visit | Peru

Ollantaytambo was our favorite village we visited in Peru. It is a magical little village situated in the Sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo renowned for its enchanting ruins. Among all the ruins in Peru, the Sitio arqueológico Pinkuylluna is considered the most captivating.

Perched on the side of a sheer cliff, these ruins are unique and breathtaking sight. They are believed to be the remnants of a 15th-century Incan grain storage site.

Ollantaytambo, is a living Inca town with well-preserved ruins and traditional stone architecture. It serves as a gateway to the Sacred Valley and is a key stop before the journey to Machu Picchu. Visitors can explore the ancient Ollantaytambo fortress, steeped in history and surrounded by magnificent terraces. The town itself has a charming and authentic atmosphere, offering a glimpse into daily life in the Andes. Nearby, adventure seekers can hike to Pinkuylluna Mountain Granaries for stunning panoramic views. This historic town offers a more authentic and less touristy experience compared to other towns, contributing to sustainable tourism practices in the region.

Hotel Vertical Sky

Vertical Sky is by far the most unique place I have ever been to. It is situated on a side of a cliff, this place is truly one-of-a-kind. In order to get there you’ll take a car halfway up, and then hop on an ATV to complete the ascent. Once you reach the top, prepare to be awestruck by the stunning views of the mountains and Sacred Valley. To access your room, you’ll need to put on a helmet and harness, and an attentive guide will safely escort you. Vertical Sky offers an unparalleled and exhilarating experience that’s sure to get your adrenaline pumping.

Halfway Point to Machu Picchu

Ollantayambo as a halfway point to Machu Picchu. It is situated approximately halfway between the city of Cusco and Machu Picchu, making it an ideal stopover for visitors making their way to the iconic archaeological site. By stopping at Ollantaytambo on your way to Machu Picchu, you not only break up the journey but also get to explore a beautiful and historically significant destination that adds depth to your overall experience in the Sacred Valley.
