Ollantayambo A Must Visit | Peru
Peru has so many amazing places, but Ollantaytambo was definitely our favorite village.
Ollantaytambo is a real Inca town that feels like stepping back in time, with its well-preserved ruins and classic stone buildings. It’s the perfect stop in the Sacred Valley before heading to Machu Picchu. You can explore the ancient fortress, which is packed with history and surrounded by amazing terraces. The town itself has a laid-back, authentic vibe that gives you a real feel for everyday life in the Andes. If you’re up for it, a hike to the Pinkuylluna Mountain Granaries nearby rewards you with some incredible panoramic views. Plus, Ollantaytambo is less touristy than other towns, making it a great spot for a more genuine—and sustainable—travel experience.
This little gem in the Sacred Valley is dreamy, especially with its famous ruins. Out of all the ruins we checked out, Sitio arqueológico Pinkuylluna was by far the coolest and most captivating.
Sitio Arqueologico Pinkuylluna
Perched right on the edge of a steep cliff, these ruins are seriously one of the most impressive sights you’ll see. They’re thought to be leftover from a 15th-century Incan grain storage — pretty wild to imagine!

Hotel Vertical Sky
Vertical Sky is hands down one of the most unique places I’ve ever been. It’s literally perched on the side of a cliff, and getting there is half the adventure — you drive partway up, then hop on an ATV to finish the climb. Once you’re at the top, the views of the mountains and the Sacred Valley will totally blow you away. To get into your room, you’ll actually gear up with a helmet and harness, and a guide will walk you through everything to keep you safe. It’s such a thrilling, adrenaline-packed experience that you won’t forget anytime soon!
Halfway Point to Machu Picchu
One of the big reasons we wanted to visit Ollantaytambo is that it’s basically the halfway point to Machu Picchu. It’s right between Cusco and the famous ruins, so it’s the perfect spot to break up the trip. Plus, stopping here gives you a chance to explore a beautiful town with tons of history, making your whole Sacred Valley experience way more memorable.
