Moody Coastal Engagement Florence, OR | Morgan + Carson

When Morgan and Carson reached out to me, they knew they wanted coastal engagement photos, and Florence, Oregon, with its breathtaking landscapes and romantic atmosphere, was the perfect destination for their session. They traveled all the way from Bend, which is about a 4-hour drive, for this special moment. Their love for the coast and the dreamy atmosphere of the Oregon Coastline made Heceta Head, in Florence an ideal choice.

However, their engagement session wasn’t exactly what we had initially planned, and that’s what made it even more dreamy.

On the day of their shoot, the weather forecast called for a 60% chance of rain. Of course, anyone planning a photo session on the coast hopes for sunny skies, but I always tell my couples not to worry about the weather too much. The coastal fog and mist can add a romantic and ethereal quality to photos—and in this case, it was the moodiness of the sky that made the session even more unforgettable.

The rain never did arrive. Instead, we were treated to a stunning and dramatic sky, with layers of clouds hanging low above the ocean, which created the most incredible lighting for their photos. The lighting was soft yet powerful, casting a dreamy glow over the couple and the landscape, and giving their photos a romantic, almost moody feel. Their story is a perfect example of how unpredictable weather can work in your favor to create stunning and dreamy engagement photographs.
